Birding Field Companion — Privacy Policy

Birding Field Companion is an offline-first birding field notebook. Most data stays on your device; an optional account adds cloud sync.

On your device (default)

• Bird observations — species, date, location, notes, photos
• Trips, checklists, wishlist, and app settings
• An optional eBird API token, stored in secure device storage for export validation

If you create an account (optional)

• Email address and password (hashed on our server)
• The observation data you choose to sync
• A display name and bio, only if you enable social features

Purchases

App Store or Google Play purchase receipts are sent to our server to validate your Premium entitlement. Raw receipts are not stored in logs.

Crash reporting

In production builds, anonymized crash stack traces may be sent to Sentry. Observation content, tokens, and receipts are never included in a crash report.

Location and photos

Location is used to record where you saw a bird. Photos stay local and are only uploaded if you sync and attach them to an observation.

What we don't do

We do not sell personal data, submit checklists to eBird on your behalf, or track you across other apps for advertising.

Your choices

Use the app without an account in local-only mode where supported. Export or delete data via Settings, or request account deletion by opening a GitHub issue (below).
